Digestive Disorders

Sarah Johnson can help you manage a spectrum of digestive issues including, but not limited to IBS, acid reflux, heart burn, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, hemorrhoids, fissures, bloating and gas.  With a combination of acupuncture, herbs, dietary changes, and specific supplements, Sarah will provide a targeted treatment plan to correct underlying problems in the digestive system, encourage healing, and maintain a healthy gut.

ALLERGIES

If you're living here in Austin, there's a good chance you've suffered from allergies at some point during the year. It seems our wonderful city is always in bloom! Allergies occur when the immune system mounts an attack on something harmless such as pollen or pet dander. Asthma, hay fever, eczema, insomnia, and digestive problems can all stem from underlying allergies and can be treated with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. For many patients, acupuncture brings almost immediate relief. Acupuncture has shown in recent studies to help regulate the immune system by decreasing allergic responses and improving the ability to fight off viral and bacterial infections.

STRESS

In this day and age, it seems like everyone is constantly on the go. Managing work, family, trying to find time to get to the gym, etc., can be a struggle. Acupuncture is a great way to give your body the time it needs to slow down and re-balance. Not only do patients find acupuncture incredibly relaxing (many of them fall asleep during treatments) but acupuncture is proven to decrease levels of cortisol, or stress hormone, in the body. Prolonged elevated cortisol can be the cause of numerous diseases such as heart disease, infertility, high blood pressure, adrenal fatigue, depression, and obesity, to name a few.

ANXIETY & DEPRESSION

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can be effective forms of treatment for mild to moderate cases of anxiety and depression. They can also be safely combined with conventional treatments such as talk therapy and pharmaceuticals for more severe cases. Sarah may also suggest customized dietary and lifestyle changes if necessary to speed the progress of making you feel better in order to live the life you want to lead.

RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS

Respiratory problems respond very well to acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Whether you are coming in for an acute cold or sinus infection or a chronic problem like asthma or emphysema, acupuncture can help improve lung function, calm inflammation and clear phlegm congestion.

FATIGUE

Chronic fatigue affects more than one million Americans and can cause pain, insomnia, a weakened immune system and other symptoms leading to a poor quality of life. Many patients with this diagnosis find relief with the combination of Chinese herbs, acupuncture and dietary changes. Fatigue that has not been examined by a doctor can be associated with a multitude of disease states and should be assessed by your primary care physician. If your fatigue is associated with stress, insomnia, mild depression or other known causes, treatments with Chinese medicine could give you more energy and correct the underlying cause of fatigue.

AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS

Because acupuncture is able to regulate the immune system, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation, autoimmune disorders respond particularly well to acupuncture. Sarah Johnson has experience in treating such disorders as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease, lupus, Crohn's, Hashimoto's, and HIV.

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Many people ask if acupuncture can help them lose weight. The answer is yes; when combined with a proper diet and exercise, acupuncture can help. Along with acupuncture and sometimes herbal medicine, Sarah will create a dietary outline and recommend specific foods that are beneficial to your body type to help correct an imbalance which might be responsible for weight gain. This combined plan will help your digestion system work more efficiently and benefit the function of your metabolism.

ADDICTION/SMOKING CESSATION

Acupuncture is a helpful tool in overcoming an addiction. It speeds up the time in which your body detoxifies so that the symptoms of withdraw happen for a shorter period. It also helps curb cravings, aids in sleep problems, and mood swings and can help you move through emotions that come up regarding your addiction.

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can originate from various causes such as being subject to an act of violence or surviving a natural disaster. Any situation causing emotional, physical or mental trauma can result in PTSD. The use of acupuncture for PTSD has been scientifically proven to show reduced anxiety levels and stress in individuals. In fact, the United States military is employing acupuncturists to treat returning soldiers suffering from PTSD. Through acupuncture and herbal medicine, Sarah can make it easier for affected individuals to regain composure in daily life activities and will support each individual's natural healing over time.
